our history

The
Beginings
Jail Foundation Community Organization was officially registered in 2025, on Bussi Island, Lake Victoria, Wakiso District, Uganda, dedicated to unlocking the untapped potential of local youth and women. Our mission was born from a critical need to address high unemployment and unsustainable agricultural practices that threatened both livelihoods and the environment by integrating skill development with climate-resilient farming.
Â
We model
courage
Before we officially registered as a Community-Based Organization (CBO), we started small to prove our model. Our first steps included:
Â
- Empowering Young Women: Training a small group of girls in detergent making to provide immediate, home-based income.
Â
- Demonstration Farming: Planting “showcase” gardens to teach modern, climate-resilient techniques that rejuvenate the soil rather than depleting it.
Earlier
Successes
The success of these early pilots was overwhelming. We saw firsthand that when you provide a person with a skill and a sustainable way to work with the land, the entire family thrives.
Jali CBO
Today
Today our CBO is moving beyond small groups. Our journey is now focused on scaling these programs to reach every household on Bussi Island, ensuring that our community remains healthy, skilled, and in harmony with the natural world, empowering the community to view nature as a source of protection rather than a restriction.
